Meet Yashama
EDUCATOR. ACTIVIST. LEADER.
Yashama Thompson is a teacher educator committed to working collaboratively with the next generation of educators (both in and out of school buildings) to ensure that all children experience humanizing instructional practices centered on their genius and cultural wealth. Born and raised in Burgaw, North Carolina, she learned the importance of "it takes a village" and guides from this mantra in her work and research interests.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master's Degree in School Building Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Learning and Organizational Change from Baylor University.
She is currently an Executive Director of Partnership Design and Support at Instruction Partners and the Founder of Yes To The Book, a Non-Profit working towards the vision to help kids and families #readtowardsliberation and change systems of inequity one book at a time.
